Americus, GA – Fatal Pedestrian Accident at US-280 & GA-27 Intersection

Americus, GA (January 15, 2022) – Around 8:15 a.m. on Friday morning, January 14, one person was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Americus.

According to the Americus Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of US-280 and GA-27. A pedestrian was walking across the street at the intersection when they were allegedly struck by an Americus Police Department cruiser. It is not known if the officer was on call or if their sirens were going at the time.

Paramedics and numerous other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead due to traumatic injuries. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the accident.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for several hours as police and other responders worked to clear the scene.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
