Atlanta, GA (September 16, 2021) – At 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, September 15, a pedestrian accident occurred at an intersection in Atlanta.
According to Clayton County Police, the accident happened at the intersection of GA-85 and Garden Walk Boulevard. A 19-year-old driver allegedly drove up onto the sidewalk and struck two pedestrians who were walking in the area. The 19-year-old told officers that his tire blew out and this caused him to lose control of his vehicle. However, police determined that he was driving drunk at the time.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The pedestrians, who have not yet been identified, were seriously injured in the crash. They were rushed to the hospital, though their current conditions are not yet known.
The driver of the vehicle that struck them was arrested on multiple charges. These included DUI, possession of marijuana, driving with no insurance, and more.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
