Brookhaven, GA (September 8, 2021) – At 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, September 8, a fiery school bus accident occurred in Brookhaven.
According to police, the accident happened at 3500 Buford Highway around 10 miles from Atlanta. At the time, a BMW was attempting to exit a business. It suddenly crossed over the northbound lanes of traffic where it collided with a DeKalb County school bus for unknown reasons. The bus was carrying 40 children at the time.
The BMW burst into flames as a result of the collision. The bus was on its way to Sequoyah Middle School at the time. The students were given alternative transportation.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The occupants inside the BMW, who have not yet been identified, were injured. Their conditions are not yet known.
Due to the severity of the crash, all lanes of traffic in both directions were blocked. All lanes were reopened around 9:30 a.m.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
