Clayton, GA – Deputy Injured in Car Accident on US-441

Clayton, GA (January 18, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a serious car accident involving a deputy on a major roadway in Clayton on Monday, January 17.

Georgia State Patrol officials confirmed that the accident happened around 6 p.m. on US-441. A 70-year-old male driver was trying to cross over the roadway from Advance Auto when his vehicle collided with a pickup truck being operated by a patrol driver. The pickup truck struck the side of the Mercury on the passenger’s side, which caused extensive damages to the vehicle.

Local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. The driver of the Mercury and his 61-year-old wife both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The deputy sustained minor injuries but is expected to be okay.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. The driver of the Mercury has since been charged with failing to yield.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
