Covington, GA (September 16, 2021) – At 6:24 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, September 16, a car accident occurred on a major highway in Covington.
According to officials, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of exit 88, Almon Road. Several vehicles were traveling in the eastbound lanes when they collided with each other due to reasons that are not yet known. The vehicles involved in the accident were badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. One or more victims were injured in the collision. The victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police cleared the scene. Police urged those in the area to use Iris Drive as an alternate route.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
