Dacula, GA (November 19, 2021) – At 7:00 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, November 18, a car accident with injuries and at least one fatality occurred at an intersection in Dacula.
An Athens woman was killed in the wreck, which happened on Georgia Highway 316 in Barrow County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The fatal wreck occurred when the woman’s westbound Honda HRV crashed into a tractor-trailer rig that had pulled into the highway from Barber Creek Road in Statham. Troopers said the 26-year-old woman died at the scene. It’s unclear if any other person sustained injuries.
An initial investigation showed that the tractor-trailer driver pulled into the highway to travel eastbound and had stopped in a crossover. His trailer was blocking the westbound lanes and the Honda hit the side of the trailer, troopers added.
The truck driver, a 66-year-old man, is facing charges that include vehicular homicide.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased woman. Our thoughts are with any injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
